We have a diverse team of veterinarians, staff and support hospitals that give us the unique opportunity to provide our services.
Early 2000’s: The concept of a mobile equine sports medicine practice was first born out of our friendship with Dr. Joe Strickland while we were all working together at the Colorado State Univerity Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Dr. Strickland created a mobile sports medicine service for students to travel and gain experience which was highly regarded in the industry at the time. Our time at CSU came to a close and this program was discontinued in its original format.
2006 - 2012: Drs. Farstvedt and Holland began the practice of servicing the winter migration of horses to Arizona and spending the summers working in Montana. We began this company in partnership with Copper Spring Ranch of Bozeman, MT then named CSR Equine Sports Medicine. We operated this mobile sports medicine service and the CSR Equine hospital for 6 years until the ranch came under new management.
2006 - Current: Alaska work rotation began with Dr. Sabrieta Holland in Palmar, AK. Since that time Dr. Ellis has made a spring and fall trip to service this area in any capacity that he could. Also working with Dr. Julie and Joe Grohs at Alaska Equine & Small Animal. This has been our most species diverse location and has provided a multitude of unique experiences that we are thankful for.
2012: This is the year that we re-organized and re-branded our company independently to Performance Equine Specialists while maintaining a similar geographical area of service. At this point we moved our Montana base of operations to Red Lodge and continued to service Arizona and Alaska.
2020: Started the Beartooth Animal Hospital at the original location of Red Lodge Veterinary Clinic. Our friendship and business relationship with Dr. John Beug and Sue Beug have allowed for the development of this hospital. We are carrying the legacy of what this family has done for Red Lodge into the future.
